北京中间美术馆位于北京市海淀区西山文化创意大道的西端，其前身成立于二〇〇八年，二〇一一年经北京市民政局注册为民营美术馆。中间美术馆总面积两千六百平米，一共有三层展厅，配备专业美术馆软硬件设施，同时拥有驻留艺术家工作室。
中间美术馆拥有坚实的研究与展览策划实力，近年来开展当代艺术的实践与理论探索，不断回到中国二十世纪下半叶的艺术与思想的现场中，认识和梳理中国当代艺术的历史进程，挖掘在今天仍发挥着影响的意识线索、语言逻辑和艺术观念，为中国当代艺术史研究的学科建设作出持续的努力。中间美术馆专注支持非商业性的艺术生产和思考，注重开展活跃的策展实验，引介前沿的策展思考，推动中国当代艺术领域对于策展工作的认识和发展。
在实践中，中间美术馆坚持面向中国问题和现场，寻找合适的方法，在将今天的我们视为历史的、亚洲的、全球的一部分的前提下，探寻艺术内部的演变轨迹。我们关注在文化的、历史的、政治的关联性而不是封闭性中浮现的批判视角，既持续地反观自身，也与全球前沿的艺术实践进行持续的对话。
Beijing Inside-Out Art Museum was founded in 2008 and it is located at the west end of Xishan Cultural Creative Avenue in Haidian District, Beijing. The museum was registered as a privately owned art museum at the Beijing Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau in 2011. With a total area of 2,600 square meters, the museum has three floors of exhibition halls and is well-equipped with professional museum hardware and software facilities, as well as a studio for its Artist Residency Programme.
With a strong capacity in research and curation, the museum has been carrying out exploration of contemporary art through practice and theory in recent years. In constantly returning to the artistic and intellectual practices in the second half of the 20th century in China, the museum recognizes and articulates the historical process of Chinese contemporary art, as well as uncovers the clues of the ideologies, the rhetoric and logic, and the artistic concepts that still exert influence today, thereby making continuous efforts for the discipline of the history of Chinese contemporary art. The museum focuses on supporting non-commercial art practice and thinking and emphasizes active curatorial experiments. It introduces cutting-edge curatorial ideas and promotes the understanding and development of curatorial work in the field of Chinese contemporary art.
In its practice, the Inside-Out Art Museum insists on orienting itself to situations and issues in the Chinese context. It searches for the appropriate methods and explores the trajectory of art’s internal evolution under the premise that we see ourselves in the current moment as a part of history, Asia, and the world. We focus on the critical perspectives emerging from the interconnections between culture, history, and politics, instead of isolation. We continuously reflect on ourselves and engage in an ongoing dialogue with cutting-edge art practices around the world.
