START MUSEUM presents the large-scale solo exhibition of artist Yan Bing titled "Apple Orchard" on November 5, 2024. This exhibition draws inspiration from an autobiographical novel written by the artist four years ago.
Over the course of more than a decade, Yan Bing has consistently explored still life as the focal point of his artistic practice. His works encompass a diverse array of subjects—from skins and potatoes to mushrooms and broken trees, his repeated depictions of still life allow him to transcend the objects themselves, constructing a monument to nature with an eternal quietness and showcasing a strong call to primal forces. His creative journey is notably deliberate and classical. Finally, in this exhibition, he has chosen the vivid and archetypal theme of "apples" as a challenge. Apples derived from the orchard cultivated in his childhood home. To him, apples embody a unique blend of the regular and the vibrant, the contemporary and the classical, resonating with anyone familiar with the basic painting training. Additionally, apples carry complex and multifaceted meanings within the context of human cultural history. "Apples" are undoubtedly the most intricate, challenging, and necessary exploration in Yan Bing's artistic career.
In this exhibition, START MUSEUM will present nearly 30 new works by Yan Bing related to "apples".
