New artistic concepts and art forms are often not accidental results brought about by social progress, but a spiritual creation of human beings. The part of the artwork that seems to be out of touch with the real world and events is precisely an instinctive avoidance and exposure. A hint of bitterness towards the real world.
In the artistic works of artist Meng Yangyang, the appreciation is based on the distrust and self-hypnosis of the real world, and it is also the ideal pursuit of the illusory realm. Looking back at Meng Yangyang's early works, those personal, secret, complex and entangled emotions, under the high saturation of color, reached a state of almost "distortion". This is an artist who seeks from the heart, good at delicately and sensitively capturing the quietness that is not easy to be noticed.
Lutra Gallery, in cooperation with Meng Yangyang, presents her solo exhibition "Ideal Illusion", displaying 17 works of her creation in 2022. Meng Yangyang tried new techniques in the creative process, expressing different styles and character themes in a new narrative way from previous years.
In the works in this exhibition, one can feel Meng Yangyang's use of flowing brushstrokes in the minimalist expression of characters to dissolve the solid-colored body into the background. The "they" in the painting struggle and exist in Meng Yangyang's paintings. Meng Yangyang has moved away from the warm tones in previous works, and the calmness and compactness dominated by soft grays and soft browns reveal her new world of self-exploration.
