珀德画廊荣幸宣布将于2024年8月3日在上海画廊空间推出代理艺术家廖亮的最新个展“亲爱的小狗”。此次展览系廖亮在珀德画廊呈现的首次个展，展示他以狗为主题创作的一系列陶塑作品。展览由李云帆策划，将持续至2024年9月18日。
作为中国以狗为长期创作主题的代表性艺术家之一，廖亮探讨人和狗之间纯粹而复杂的相互凝视关系，不断用陶土展现自己独特的理解与思考。与其他创作动物类主题作品的艺术家不同，对养过很多狗的廖亮而言，狗不仅是适于感受(good to feel)的生物，也是共同生活(good to live with)的伙伴，更是适于思考(good to think)的他者。廖亮的作品自然、纯粹、简单，始终贯穿着独特的狗的气质，在他创作中，人不再是世界中心的主体，狗也不是被改造和征服的客体，而是人与狗两者之间互为凝视共生，共同塑造更好的彼此。
廖亮对狗的喜爱在很小的时候就已经开始，大学其实便将狗作为创作对象，一边研究各种狗的演化史、体征特点、培育方式、性格特征、驯养概念，一边基于他对狗的研究不断用陶土创作狗的雕塑。对廖亮而言，不是他选择学习雕塑，以狗为主题，而是对狗的热爱让他敏锐察觉出泥土与狗之间的共性，于是以陶塑的形式开启他的创作之路。廖亮从不将自己视为“拥有狗”的主人，更像是与狗一同过日子的伙伴，他追求以一种简单纯粹的方式，将人与狗之间的复杂关系一一诉说，这也是他不追求写实的雕塑传统，另辟蹊径不断尝试新的造型语言进行创作的原因。
动物总是被观看的对象，而“它们也在观看我们”这件事并非毫无意义。狗不应该只作为被凝视的自然他者，也不只是被人类记录、描述、阐释的对象或文本图像，而是有着自我发生、情感表达、多元互动的个体。廖亮从人与狗的羁绊出发，讲述两者间的关系实践，走出人类中心主义的樊笼，理解探索人文意义上的自然他者与文化意义上的异邦。20多年的创作，“亲爱的小狗”是廖亮用创作谱写的情书，邀请观众感受人与狗之间深厚的情感纽带与哲学思考，共同探讨生命的多样性与共生的可能性。
Bird Gallery is honored to announce its latest solo exhibition of the represented artist, Liao Liang, titled "Dear Little Puppy" in Shanghai on August 3, 2024. This will be Liao Liang's first solo exhibition at Bird Gallery, showcasing a series of ceramic sculptures themed around dogs. The exhibition, curated by Li Yunfan, will last until September 18, 2024.
As one of the representative artists in China who has focused on dogs as a long-term theme, Liao Liang explores the pure yet complex mutual gaze between humans and dogs, continuously using clay to express his unique understanding and thoughts. Unlike other artists who create works themed around animals, for Liao Liang, who has owned many dogs, dogs are not just beings that are good to feel, but also companions that are good to live with, and others that are good to think with. His works are natural, pure, and simple, always embodying the unique temperament of dogs. In his creations, humans are no longer the central subject of the world, and dogs are not objects to be transformed and conquered, but rather, humans and dogs coexist in mutual gaze, shaping each other into better beings.
Liao Liang's love for dogs started at a young age. In college, he began to use dogs as creative subjects, simultaneously studying the evolutionary history, physical characteristics, breeding methods, temperaments, and training concepts of various dogs, while continuously creating dog sculptures with clay based on his research. For Liao Liang, it was not that he chose to study sculpture and then chose dogs as his theme, but rather, his love for dogs made him keenly aware of the commonality between clay and dogs, thus beginning his creative journey in ceramic sculpture. Liao Liang never considers himself the "owner" of dogs but more like a partner living alongside them. He seeks to narrate the complex relationship between humans and dogs in a simple and pure manner, which is why he does not pursue the traditional realistic sculpture but constantly tries new forms of language in his creations.
Animals are always objects of observation, but the fact that "they are also watching us" is not meaningless. Dogs should not only be viewed as natural others to be observed or mere objects or texts to be recorded, described, and interpreted by humans, but as individuals with self-occurrence, emotional expression, and multi-faceted interaction. Starting from the bond between humans and dogs, Liao Liang narrates the practice of the relationship between the two, stepping out of the cage of anthropocentrism, and explores the natural other in a humanistic sense and the exotic in a cultural sense. With over 20 years of creation, “Dear Little Puppy” is a love letter written by Liao Liang through his creations, inviting the audience to feel the deep emotional bond and philosophical contemplation between humans and dogs, jointly exploring the diversity of life and the possibilities of coexistence.
