前言 Foreword:

The end of July, 2024 is approaching. What is the exhibition to welcome the long vacation on a scorching day? Summer and vacation form the background of many literary works and movies, such as Kikujiro (Takeshi Kitano) and A Summer at Grandpa's (Hou Hsiao-hsien). Initially we planned an exhibition in which all the works are visually blue, where audience finds a blue sanctuary where silence reigns supreme.

As we planned and made progress, the blue space concept evolved to embrace the notion that true silence emerges from movement, just as joy blossoms from a contrast with sadness. Akin to the idea of “the geese flying across the cold pool, their shadows fleeting, or the wind wuthering through a sparse bamboo forest, its sound ephemeral,” as written by a Chinese philosopher, this exhibition captures the tranquil essence of stillness in the aftermath of motion.

In our modern, riotous, urbanized existence with colossally unreal daily encounters, the yearning for idyllic tranquility and a reclusive life resonates deeply. Globalization and urbanization, especially in a  digital context, has cultivated a sense of "living elsewhere," prompting the young generation to extract their own emotions from life's perpetual flux. Artists’ statements are using words such as real, fantasy, and perception, which encapsulate their ideas of uncertainty. These works seem to be transient dreams solidifying into eternal amber, making the briefly detached emotions eternal.

The relationship between an artist's life and the artworks forms a common thread in art history narratives. Life, both personal and intrinsically tied to the era, leaves indelible traces and voices of the artist. Just as the shadows of geese dissipate and the bamboo whispers fade, the artist alone possesses the power to immortalize these fleeting moments, transforming them into timeless spaces within their works. They are as powerful as winds, stirring up the ripples on the lake and brushing over everything in the world.
